Hi Chris,
I think mine is a very early one (SN# 103601)
and there was some speculation earlier on this list
that they may have used radioactive glass in the earliest
formulation of this lens (a la early 55/1.2) - or the coatings
have yellowed. I have not found a geiger-counter yet.
Either way, this lens is spectacularly good, I just
darkroom-printed a couple of 10x12in cityscapes
and the details are amazing, I suspect the slight yellowing
has boosted the microcontrast of mine even further...
The only thing that sucks with this lens is flare if the sun
is just out-of-frame. Not sure why Mamiya could build, at around
the same time, a completely flare-free 24mm-equiv lens and Olympus
could not, but on the other hand the Mamiya is an f/4.5 only.
