Went out this morning with the (relatively) new Zeiss 21mm 2.8. Found
an old Landing Craft Resupply Cargo (LARC) at Port Clyde and took a
couple of snaps. One color, one black and white. In the color shot,
you can gauge the scale of the ship by the size of the pilot house at
the stern, and by the fact the tires (tyres) are better than six feet
tall. The torpedo shaped gizmo in the foreground, which I cannot
identify, is _very_ long, giving a good glimpse at how the lens
handles that whole near-far thing. I rather like the black and white
conversion as a shot unto itself, and again think the lens did a
smashing job.

For those interested in such things, it's a manual lens, Nykon mount,
built for full frame. The D3 lets me dial in the maximum aperture and
focal length and thus matrix metering is available. And while it's
manual focus, the little dot-thingie in the viewfinder shows itself
when focus is achieved at the designated autofocus spot in the
viewfinder. I _really_ like this lens, but it's limitations are as yet
unknown to me. FWIW, Zeiss included the little metal prong on the
aperture ring so I could use this lens on my old Nykon Photomic FTN
finder, if I still had the body and finder. <g> (Nykon & Pentax mounts
currently available, Canyon mount due out soon, mid-summer if I recall.)
