Not disagreeing with Chuck, but it's a bit like making sure the eyes
are in focus at the expense of the nose. Considerations about bokeh
play in too. Big flowers like that, at that magnification, require
about f16 to get all parts in focus, maybe. Background may suffer as
a result. It's all about tradeoffs.
Frankly, what I hate to see with big flowers is the front tips of the
petals in perfect focus and the rest of the flower all mushy because
the photographer is enjoying the bokeh of his cool lens at f2.
I think Jim's judgments were pretty much right on. Well done. Can't
believe you've got a rose already. We're just finishing Dutchman's
britiches and getting violets right now.
