Bill,
I have used pieces cut from toothpicks, along with Elmer's Glue, to restore
wallowed out holes in wood. The toothpicks are hardwood, so they will grip
a screw, and the glue will hold them in place, while being pliable enough to
avoid cracking.
If the holes are still precise enough to allow you to tighten the screws
securely, then some sort of epoxy might be called for. The screws would
clamp it in place until everything sets up hard.
