I had also switched to AVG on advice from here but it began to grow
tiresome for its use of resources. So, also on advice received here I
switched to Avast and am much happier. Avast is a different sort of
animal. It doesn't do a full scan of the drive unless asked to do so
and can also do a rootkit check if requested. Normally it just checks
whatever you're actively using as it comes in off the net or gets loaded
off the disk. After an initial full scan it makes much more sense to do
it that way. It's operation is really not very noticeable except for
the first couple of minutes after boot when it gets very busy doing I
know not exactly what. Recommended when you finally get ready to toss AVG.
