But as someone who really really likes Asian foods (of almost every country/region), I'll take the American "dumbed down" versions when it comes to the "quality of the ingredients" of pork and chicken. There are enough seriously good cooks on work visas here that I can get an authentic oriental dish if I ask for it. There is a Chinese take-out here in Newton that knows how to make the dishes for me. I specifically told them to make it like they'd make it for themselves, not dumb Americans. Also, if you go into "China Town" in many of our big cities, you're bound to experience authentic (sometimes too authentic) Chinese cooking. As to Pizza, I honestly believe that "Pizza" is a "concept", not a "product". The whole idea behind Pizza is to reflect the ingredients and tastes of each locale. French Pizza is different than Italian Pizza which is very different from Greek Pizza. Why pick on the Americans for having taken the concept of Pizza and really run with it? We're a large country with very unique taste preferences in the different regions. There is a regional chain of convenient stores/gas stations here in Iowa that have take-out Pizza. This Pizza ingredients/recipes are actually supplied by a rather nice chain of restaurants that uses French style pizza as the root recipe.
