I have used all possible ways of crossing the North Sea or Channel
many times but of course I live just across on the right side. ;-)
There really is no big difference between the "Chunnel" and the
tunnels through the Alps, upward from Italy.
Except for the Customs of course - there's the insular thinking again.
UK still isn't a Schengen country.
Nicest way to cross, IMHO, is the hovercraft. You hear and see it
coming from miles away, very impressive. And then the huge beast
crawling up on the beach, all our cars entering it, and off it went.
And the whole crossing took only 30 minutes. Bit bumpy, but boats and
planes can give you unpleasant stomach feelings as well... now I have
come to think of it, the train is the most smooth way of crossing of
all. One just has to ignore thoughts about what's up and above ;-)
