Ken's observations of the E-3's ISO performance motivated me to run a
few tests of my own. The following page:
http://www.richardlovison.com/E-3%20iso%20test.html
contains images of a closeup view of a blanket weave taken at 6
different ISOs -- 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 and 3200. The RAW images were
processed with the NR filter set to low and sharpening at -2. The images
were then processed in CS2 with pre-sharpening and later output
sharpening for a 400 pixel image. The 1600 and 3200 images had Noise
Ninja noise reduction applied using E-3 profiles with strength set to 5
and sharpening set to 30 (half the defaults) and their saturation was
increased to match the other samples. Each sample is a center crop at
100%. Feel free to draw whatever conclusions you want from the images. :)
Make sure you set your browser wide enough to see 3 images in each row
otherwise the page turns to a mess. Attribute it to poor html programming.
