I used a 1D Mark II as my primary camera for 2 years (2005-2007). It
is indeed 8 MP but not full-frame. Its sensor has a factor of 1.3.
$1200 is less than a third of what it cost new, so it did certainly
drop in value. But it is still perfectly usable. Very rugged, very
heavy, very weatherproof (I tested that in pouring Amsterdam rain on
several occasions), a battery that lasts forever even in freezing
weather etc.
