That sky wasn't nearly as dramatic in reality as it was in the final print. Besides, the trees grew. Joel talks about being stuck in a landscape rut. This is a good point of discussion. When is something, no matter how well executed, just a repeat of what you (or somebody else) has done before? Remember the 1970's landscape photographs? Every single one was framed by trees and branches. ~YAWN~ It took me 20 years to figure out how to photograph the Taquamenon Falls without the spruces creating a vignette. But guess what--the framed shot is the one that sold. Grrrr. If I see one more picture of a mountain reflecting in a lake I'm going to puke--but I still take those same pictures at every opportunity. Let's face it--we're all plagiarists of others and own selves.
