Because it's not the same lens. The Panasonic DMC-L10 kit lens 14-50 is
a 3.8-5.6. The lens now sold sans body is the same focal length range
but it's a 2.8-3.5. B&H sells it for $899.95 new and $699 used. Adorama
has the same price on a new lens.
KEH has a used Panasonic DMC-L1 for sale with included 14-50/2.8-3.5 in
EX+ condition for $599. That was the kit lens back then... expensive at
$1999 retail. As DPReveiw commented in the DMC-L1 review the lens was
probably 1/2 the price. Maybe your best bet if you really want one.
