Chris' flight gloves are most likely made out of Nomex. This material is
moderately good at insulation and it doesn't burn/melt into your skin.
 These green gloves (dotted or leather palmed) can be purchased at military
surplus stores.

I've been using shooting gloves.  These are not only warm enough for the
given temperature range they are specified for, but have usually quite good
dexterial control.
