No need to "destroy" a ~$80 piece of hardware!
I bought a shutter control, cut the cord in half, and inserted a male-
female pair of standard 1/8" mini stereo phone jacks. Now I can plug
anything that does a contact closure into the camera. I bread-boarded
a simple FET relaxation oscillator and relay to do timed interval
shooting that way.
