Included is one more shot from our hike along the Niagara River--Goat
Island Bridge and an expanse of the Niagara River--OM-2.
Marnie and I had scoped out a few vantage points in Cambridge the week
before to try and get an interesting shot of the Zakim Bridge. We met a
dusk after work and used the Z. 50-250, OM-2 and had to shoot through a
chain link fence. We inadvertently blocked the progress of a "Duck
Boat" while the shutter was open. I was oblivious to it at first, but
the tourists were just amused.
The bridge is the first in the US to us ungrouted stays for its stay
cables. The engineers were worried in a rain storm it could vibrate and
fail until they came up with a spiral bead as sheathing on the high
density polyethylene used for the stays. One can see the spirals on the
cabling as you traverse the bridge. They later had Barnum and Bailey
traipse 14 elephants over the bridge to prove its structural integrity.
Marnie had the awareness to turn around and grab a shot the other way
with the G-9, while I was focused like a laser on the bridge.
