That's a fine image, Nathan. Under the circumstances in which I have
used the sun to create a diffraction star, I never get flare. In my
experience, the circumstances seem to me to be mutually exclusive (but
I could be wrong). I get flare when the entire sun is in the image,
especially when the sun is the main subject of the image. I posted

This circumstance should produce no flare IMO, but there is a bit just
left of center. I consider this the biggest disappointment in the
otherwise fine DZ 50-200.
I have wondered if there is anything I can do to reduce flare with
this lens. For example, I tend not to focus on the sun itself but
ahead of it, using DOF to keep everything in focus. I also tend to
use one of the "better" stops like f8 or f11, so I don't know if
opening or stopping down would increase or decrease the effect.
