I have been using eset nod32 for years and seems to be the least
intrusive of all the AVs I have tried. Norton AV has a history of really
digging into one's machine and once installed, I don't think it ever
fully restores the system. I rate it up there with root kits.

I have had trouble with Eset nod32 with programs that manipulate
a lot of files. For instance SVN - subversion version control software
will sometimes not work well, even if exclusions are added for SVN.

Overall, though I have tried several others and always return to eset.

Most AV products are as bad as a virus as they have to do the same
hooking into the system as a virus would.

Better to just be smart about using the computer, but if you have some
non-techy people, especially in the age range of 12-18, best to have
some protection.

I have taken to cloning my system disk and keeping it a backup.
