I'm echoing what others have said here. I had the same problem and dropped
McAfee in favor of AVG about four years ago. As I have upgraded to
subsequent versions of AVG I noticed some creeping slowdown. All was solved
by upping the OEM memory from 500 Mb to 2 Gigs. The PC runs like a striped
ape now.
