Perhaps you don't fly as much when you travel, but the weight adds up.
And heading to other parts of the world outside the states, a laptop
is a liability, just one more thing to have to worry about, never mind
all the camera gear. Getting through customs, airport, security, ...you
want to be as light as possible.
I have found I do use a laptop, but rarely, too many other
things to do than open the laptop. So I can live without it. Afterall,
I never needed it when shooting film. It is just one more symptom of
the digital way of doing things.
