Yeah, I'll take a pair of those 6x17 cameras.
Hmm. With frame rates like that, it brings new life to HDR. With a bit of
firmware programming you could have a camera that does a 20-image HDR in a
third of a second. Hubba hubba. Let's see, each image is probably 5 usable
linear stops x 20? 100 stop exposure range? Now, take 90 of those stops
and program them into a toe and shoulder. Yeah, that's the ticket. Tens of
thousands of dollars and we're almost to the point of being able to do what
we can do with a 40 year old Crown Graphic and a box of Delta 100.
Ok, ok. I'll settle down. If I was a "money is no object" person (instead
of "no money is the object"), I'd be selling off one of my Ferraris and
picking up one of these high-end systems. The reality is, however, that for
the world of high-end video/film, the REDs are chump-change. More than once
have I threatened to get into video, and a camera system such as the RED
would be right up my alley.
