Mike,
Just noticed your post regarding the Angenieux 35-70 mm zoom.
OK ...Here goes. Image quality of the lens is VERY good esp stopped down
slightly. Construction is sound but the polycarbonate construction does show
scuffs. Very respected manufacturer.
Lens is certainly "quirky" and is rather a big beast for the zoom range. I had
trouble with the zooming mechanism...once I found a repairer capable of working
on the lens it was sorted out with a general service for about £70 / $130. It
has proved faultless since. (NO spares are available!!!)
To avoid vignetting at the wide end slim line filters are essential. Two hoods
are available, the rectangular one is much better. It is prone to flare or
ghosting if a strong light source is just outside picture area.
Results with B+W film are first class.
I have three 35-70 mm zooms, the Olympus f3.6, the Angenieux, and a Tokina ATX.
Image wise the Angenieux probably has the edge But the Olympus or Tokina get
more use due to their smaller size.
Would I buy it again...Hmmm difficult, It was expensive ( I think I paid approx
$650) but it is a "cult" lens..Probably would....at $350/$400 with filters
,certainly. Depends on your viewpoint :-)
