I've been into a few galleries lately which displayed large prints
for sale - just pinned to the wall. They explained that customers
preferred to make their own framing decisions and that with these -
we're talking 6' x 4' and larger here - framing is to expensive to do
on spec. The advantage of foam core is that it's good for mounting
afterwards.
But the show may have specific requirements so ask.
Personally I buy black aluminium framed pix in thrift shops for $5-10
in appropriate sizes, clean up the frames and cut my own mattes. Save
a fortune.
Walked out of a Salvation Army store today with some costume jewelry,
a sheer slip/nightie and a framed print of a male nude. You bet that
got me a strange look. (Studio props, honest!)
