That's just the reverse of what I would want.
Thunderbird (and I presume, the Outlook things) simply downloads mail
from the list and other email accounts and deposits them in the
appropriate in-box at whatever frequency I set it for. It also can alert
me to new mail for whatever accounts I ask it to with sound and/or
visual signal.
I may then read, sort, delete, reply, etc. without any interface updates.
