I use a G7 and it is very robust. I have dropped it a couple of times
and it works fine. I really like the interface and the optical
viewfinder.
I have the hack installed, but I still haven't worked out how to
convert the RAW files it saves. However, I enjoy using the JPEGs.
Because it's an old model, it should be available cheaply or as a
refurbished model from Canyon.
