All sorts of stupid people say stupid things. Irrespective of your point of
view, you can find folks of opposing views that say stupid things. Somehow
when an idiot of an opposing view says something stupid, some use that to
validate their own overwhelming brilliance. Oh, and their righteousness. How
convenient, all they have to do is sit around and wait. When politics is
taken out of the legitimate question on global warming, there isn't much left.
Most that I've seen prefer their conversation or rant to have a very healthy
dose of politics, pseudo-science and even a few lies sprinkled in for good
measure.
Now the 500 year flood . . . that simply means the probability is once in
500 years and it could happen three years in a row, 5 out of 10, once in 2500.
If you can't grasp that concept, you can take comfort in knowing you can
blame it on someone you don't like rather than your lack of understanding of
the nature of probability. Again, how convenient.
Oh, if you live in the United States, you should buy flood insurance. This
is a government subsidized program that charges a premium which is inadequate
for the risk. That means it is cheap coverage. It also means those who pay
taxes pick up the difference between premiums collected and claims paid.

Or maybe, like the pastor that
supports McCain said about Katrina being sent by god because the people
of New Orleans were overly sinful - the same must be true about Iowa.
