Over the years, I've found more amusement than enlightenment in Consumer
Reports reviews of cameras.
This year, they have changed test methods and added software and
'expert' evaluations.
Either they have improved or I have gotten off track myself. ;-)
They came up with the Canon A650 IS as their top scoring compact camera
and the A720 IS, the current slight variation on my 710, in second place.
Another sign they may be on track for once is that the D300 came in as
top scoring advanced DSLR. Even some of the explanatory text makes
sense. "In fact, on some small cameras with small sensors, increased
resolution may actually degrade image quality, especially in low light."
Pack your bag for the end of days.
Oly-4/3 is definitely back in the mainstream by CR's reckoning. Top four
of ten basic DSLRs goes D80, E-510, DMC-L10, E-410 - and the top Quick
Pick is the E-510.
For advanced SLR, the E-3 is third of six, behind the D300 & 40D.
Congrats to Oly for getting back into the thick of the market!
