I have a beat-up Bogen-Manfrotto 3055-488RC0 Heavy-Duty Dual-Action Ball-Head.
(too many hyphens). Anyway, It has performed flawlessly for almost 20 years
now. It is great for big and heavy DSLRs, but found that placing a 4x5 or
larger on ANY ballhead is asking for trouble. It has nothing to do with
robustness, though.
If you aren't careful, when you loosen the tension knob to make an adjustment,
the weight of the camera will cause it to instantly flop over thereby pinching
some soft sensitive flesh on your hand or fingers. In a worse-case scenario,
you will break fingers.
