Following the recent grumbling from murkins about the cost of fuel, I
thought that the following item may be of interest. The dollars used
are AUD - that's about 96¢ US at present. Looks like you guys are
doing really, really well, even allowing for some inevitable
inaccuracies.
"Australian drivers may be paying record prices at the petrol bowser,
but they're still paying less than motorists in Europe and Canada.
Melbourne's unleaded petrol reached an all-time high yesterday of
162.9 cents a litre for unleaded fuel.
With fuel reaching retail prices above $1.60 in Melbourne yesterday,
it is worth looking at what Australians are paying compared to
motorists overseas.
In Britain, petrol is retailing for an average of $2.33 per litre,
according to national fuel price website petrolprices.com.
The US Energy Information Administration reports that the average
price of fuel across the US was $A1.05 per litre on Monday May 19.
The Indonesian Government, which subsidises petrol prices, was the
target of protests when it announced a petrol price increase for
private cars only, not motorcycles or public transportation. The
price will rise from an average of 51 cents per litre to 68 cents per
litre.
In Paris, hundreds of fishermen took to the streets to ask for
Government funding to offset the increased cost of diesel, according
to FX Street. The fishing fleet has been blockading French ports and
oil terminals on the Atlantic and the Mediterranean coasts for more
than a week. The highest price today for unleaded fuel in France is
around $A2.59 per litre, according to the French Government's own
fuel watch website."
