Like everyone else, I think you shouldn't be the one in charge. It's fine to
bring your setup along and make some nice pictures, perhaps some can outbest
the "professional" result, but you pay the professional photographer not for
one or two exceptional shots, you pay him for a complete consistent run.
Especially if you intend to use film, as so many things can go wrong.
While I'm personaly known as "the photogapher" among my friends because of the
constant abuse I've submitted them to in order to grab some pictures of them,
I've always refused to do weddings. I sure bring a camera (or some cameras),
I take pictures and sometimes I let others use my setup (because I want to
party, because I know they'll be pleased to have better shots than what they
can get with their PS, ...). But I refuse stubbornly to be the one in charge.
To be a bit more constructive, if you still need to do it, I'd advise you to
rent a pro DSLR setup. It shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg, you'd be much
more comfortable not dealing with films, and you'd know in real time if you
have the pictures you want. You can also take responsability for "studio"
pictures the day before ; weather permitting, find a nice outdoor spot or
build a nice indoor setup, prop it according to your taste, light it, have
the bride and groom dressed and shoot to your heart's content. Edit and print
the best to give everyone as memento for the day.
My younger brother will marry in may, and that's what I'm going to do for him.
