I'm writing an article on the use of Cinema to explore themes in  
philosophy.
I'm arguing that 'No country...' is an exercise in Stoicism although  
the characters don't realise that, including the assassin. They all  
assume in some way that they are in control...and are sadly  
disappointed (with the notable exception of the Sheriff). Not too  
many of them are 'decent' either.
I see no implacable evil - Chigurh is inexorable but not amoral - he  
has a clear sense of 'duty', a moral ethos. Just not one that we  
agree with or find sensible.
