Hi Everyone,
Time to show my complete ignorance on this subject, I suspect.
I have a Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400, and VueScan professional
edition (both of which I am very pleased with). I have been playing
with it to see what I can get from it and what settings are best for
various types of film, shot, etc.
Looking at the DNG files from my E330 (raw files, converted to dng with
adobe dng converter), they are coming in at 3136x2353 pixels (7.4MP).
With adobe rgb, 16 bits / channel, and 300ppi settings when I open them
in Photoshop. The file size is around 18-20 MB.
The DNG files from the scanner (well, the VueScan software), I have set
it to 2400 resolution and it is producing images of 3376x2215 pixels
(7.5MP) which is pretty comparable in size. With adobe rgb, 16 bits /
channel, and 300dpi settings, however, these files are coming in at a
whopping great 44MB.
What am I missing here ? How can 2 files with almost identical number
of pixels, same other details, etc., be so vastly different in size ?
Humour me. I know I must be missing something obvious ;-)
Thanks,
Jon
