I bought the 10 x 12 Portatrace box from B & H:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/117090-REG/Porta_Trace_Gagne_10122C_10_x_1
2_Light.html
So that chews up $50 bucks.
And I just observed that they have a slide sorter attachment for this box:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/125846-REG/Porta_Trace_Gagne_SST1012_9_x_1
2_Slide.html
That chews up another 10 bucks. (something else for my B&H wish list)
I'm using a Horizon 4x loop that appears B&H isn't carrying anymore.
The Peak 4x loupe in that looks like the Horizon:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/40719-REG/Peak_PK2038_4x_Loupe.html
I liked the Horizon because it had two skirts, one transparent and one black.
When viewing on the box I use the black skirt. When doing some other work where
the source is not back lit, I use the transparent.
The Peak would be $57, so I've broken the $100 budget for the light source and
loupe.
The idea of a reversed 50mm that Chuck and Moose propose gets you back on track
though.
I've mangled a 7mm extension tube to protect the end of a lens when I reverse
it, so that
Might be the ticket for using it as a loupe as well. I guess you could take a
rear lens cap
And cut out the middle for the same purpose.
