It's a slight annoyance, especially given the cost of genuine or even
quality 3rd party dedicated Li-Ion batteries (such as Inca). Praise
to Pentax for putting AA's in the K100D - that's why my school will
be buying them - losing batteries would be a major expense and
EVERYTHING goes missing in a school. Plus they are already geared up
to recharge AA's and have compacts that use them.
It's annoying because alternatives are possible. My Ricoh GR-D uses a
little Li-Ion slab - a Panasonic type also used by some Panny's and
Leicas - but has a little flap in the battery compartment that allows
two AAA's to be used in an emergency. They don't last long (60 shots
for alkalines) but I can carry a couple 'just in case'. So, it can be
done. The GR-D like other Ricohs also use a USB cable release. Is
that cute or what?! Love to see that as a standard.
