I didn't know that but could easily be convinced it's true. I suspect
there isn't enough fat on a rabbit to be the sole source of a human
diet. Perhaps if you ate the marrow, brains, organ meats and a bit of
bone you'd have a better chance.
But a human can subsist quite well on a pure meat diet as was
demonstrated by arctic explorer Vilhjalmur Stefansson and his colleague
Karsten Anderson. In a study conducted at Bellevue Hospital in NYC in
1928 the two lived exclusively on meat for a period of a year. Both
emerged in great health and even without scurvy. The secret to living
on a meat diet and remaining healthy is to eat plenty of fat and assure
that at least some of your meat is raw or only lightly cooked to avoid
destroying the vitamin C and also make sure to gnaw at least a bit on
bone for calcium.
This is the part 1 of Stefansson's story as printed in Harper's Monthly
Magazine in 1935. There are links to the other two parts in the
article. It's a very interesting read whose science seems to have been
lost over the years and replaced by the more conventional wisdom current
now that already existed at that time.
