Just like a camera - get the most bang for your $$.
The one I bought was about $100 more than the single
stage oil-gas thrower. There were also less expensive
throwers that are powered by electric which didnt
appeal to me. 

Also the way they pull the snow into the chute makes a
difference. The Single stage throwers just lift the
snow and throw it out. While the 2-stage throwers lift
the snow, move it up or back and throw it out.
Requires less effort because you dont have to repeat
over the same area. Better for thicker/heavier snow.
