A *very* impressive piece of metal.
I've rarely seen something machined to this level of precision, but I
guess that's why I was charged $140.00 (or so) U.S. for the plate. And
for the person on this List who said they were told that the plate was
"the ugliest thing RRS had ever produced," I'm really not sure what they
mean. Precision-machined, satin black finish, lightweight, strong, and
fits the tiny bumps and indentations on the bottom of the E-3 with what
looks like sub-sub-millimetre accuracy. Which, of course, means that
there's no danger of the plate rotating at all.
Besides, it's a *plate*. It's supposed to hold the E-3 securely, not be
a finalist in some metal fantasy's fashion contest. It's an admirable
piece of machining, in my estimation. Looks wicked pro, too. ;-)
