My son has asked for suggestions for digital cameras for his wife and 13
year old daughter. He'd like something for $150 or less for the
daughter and perhaps $250-300 for his wife. She has been quite happily
using an Oly digital of 3-4MP for the past several years but it's
showing its age. Neither of them is capable of anything beyond aiming
the camera and pressing the button. I don't think there is anything
relative to function implied in these prices. Just that he's willing to
spend more on the wife than a 13 year old.
I know we've been over this ground recently but I still don't have a
clue what to advise him. But I did briefly scan some entries at
dpreview and was surprised to see a "highly recommended" from Simon
Joinson for the Canon A560 at only $154.95 from B&H. Seems like it
might be a good choice unless the camera needs to be pocketable. It's
not quite small enough for that. It even has IS. Maybe it's all that's
required for the wife. Only real negative was short battery life.
Anyhow, all recommendations happily accepted.
Thanks,
Chuck Norcutt
