Actually the Pentax prices are not a sign of anything other than normal
cameras-as-computers business. New cameras are coming out. Hoya "buyout"
is complete, and their money/lens blanks/managing experience is adding
some of the unknowns in terms of replacement camera's features.
The K10D & K100D Super are to be replaced. Announcement is 1/24/08, and
manufacturing is gearing up, beta testing and refining is going on right
now.
K20D, among other innovations, is to have the usual stuff expected for a
$1000-$1100 body:
- 14 MP APS-C CMOS not from Sony, developed by Pentax, improved DR &
noise over the K10D
- with live view LCD
- new engine for management photos and support 14bit RAW
- with improvement of SR (shake reduction)
- body similar to K10D - of course pentaprism, etc.
- The Custom menu function will be significantly strengthened, including
camera memory for offset fine-tuning of the AF for multiple lenses.
- compatible with K10D’s BG2 grip.
- PC Sync
- of course additional unknowns held back by NDA's
K200D (update model of K100D)
- same sensor as K10D, Sony 10MP APS-C CCD
- has PRIME photo process engine, output 12-bit RAW
- more memory volume than K10D, can continuously take around 10 RAW
photos, the speed is 3fps
- similar body design as K100D, maybe has the sealed body design as K10D
- pentamirror viewfinder, CR-V3 power or 4 AA batteries
- other improvements held back by NDA's
