It means somebody misunderstands what they are talking about, writes
unclearly or made a typo. Adobe Camera Raw is not a format. It is an
application for converting various camera RAW image formats into memory
images in PS or Lightroom or to write them out to disk in standard image
formats, PSD, DNG, TIFF or JPEG.
DNG (Digital NeGative) is Adobe's own design of a "universal" Raw
format, but to date only a handful of cameras can write it. If using
Adobe Camera Raw to convert a camera specific Raw format to DNG, one
should say so to avoid confusion.
Adobe also makes a free program to batch convert most camera Raw formats
to DNG format.
