The flash is pretty much in "almost new" condition, with all of the movable
parts crisp and stiff in their action. I haven't had any problems with the
motor drive otherwise; so, I am inclined to suspect the M Grip cord, now that
you mention it, since that was tracked down at a separate vendor here in Canada
that I now consider to be of dubious integrity.
Thanks for the tip, John; I'll see if I can find another & maybe that will
clear these problems up.

I still think it's the nicad pack, md switch in the camera body or
intermittent M Grip cord causing the problem.
