Not exactly a giveaway although it ranges from 20% for beginners to
40% if you go exclusive. That's not too bad for the exposure and you
wouldn't give them your best I suppose. But put your best on Getty
and they'll charge you $50 per image listed!
Personally I'm listing for the experience. They put you through a
little exam and then make you submit three samples before they take
you on. Then anything that you upload is scrutinised at 100% and any
flaw at all gets a 'no-thanks'. They are extremely picky about noise,
artifacts and chromatic aberration so it is damn good training. I
tested the water with some older images and most didn't make the cut.
Best to shoot RAW and get it right out of the camera rather than rely
on fixing it later. You also have to avoid or clone out any corporate
logos and, as I discovered, bumper stickers.
However, a few grab shots with the little old Fuji F10 compact i
bought new and cheap breezed through.
Also it's it's good to see what actually sells. My cousin has got
some students who've used it and one arty type was sneering at a
stock shot of pale puppies on a white ground until Mark showed him
that it had been downloaded over 400 times and the photographer had
shot lots of puppies and made a bundle. Schlock sells. It makes a
nice lesson for him to show the kids that they're studying commercial
photography and not art, after they come out of schools where
photography is 'taught' by art teachers.
