Sounds to me like they must be made of the rare element known as "Olympium"
that converts the lenses to f1.4 speed.? They also offer one made with a
special dual?alloy with "ripoffium," though I would expect the price to be at
least double the ones you cited.

Not that I'm in the market for these at any time in the forseeable future,
but...
Browsing E-thing accessories on emporium.olympus.com, I noticed the LH-120 and
LH-120B lenshoods for the 300mm f2.8 and 90-250mm f2.8 lenses. The web site
indicated they were out of stock, but listed prices of $615.99 and $529.99
respectively. The Adorama web site, had them listed at $449 and $340.
I realize these are attachments to $5500-$5700+ lenses, but why so expensive?
Are they made out of beryllium or something similar?
