It was ugly, my friend. :-)
I separated the players as a layer, a bit of work, and did a bit of
noise filter to them. I think I did two application on separate layers,
then selectively blended them. The fellow on the right needed less than
the one on the left. Darker = more noise.
Did more NR, at least a couple of applications, to the background.
Finding the right combo of filtering for the crowd was just a process of
hit and miss, mix and match. I know I tried several applications of NR
in a row and NR Median with different levels of the slider and gaussian
blur. And Shape Blur with maybe a heart shape, I tried several, played a
big part. That one required a reverse mask, as I recall. These were all
on separate levels and the final crowd was some sort mixture of a couple
of them, but I'm afraid by then I wasn't sure which was which. I should
have labeled the levels....
Blurring such strong mirror lens OOF to look more or less like greater
OOF from normal lens DOF turns out to be tricky. It was fun and I
learned a lot.
I think that, working with the original, this could become an
outstanding image and print.
Separation of layers could be more precise and the effects of the
filters would be different, so it would be a different job.
