The image as downloaded was a grayscale image or at least that's what
the mode was by default. Once loaded, the in memory size is 489.8K
which is the correct size for a grayscale, 8 bit image of 836x600. I had
to convert it to RGB by changing the mode. When I did that the lens
correction filter was unlocked. CS3 did create three separate (but
identical gray level) color channels which is evident from the channels
palette but also the in memory size which grows to 1.44M
As long as I can ask questions here to resolve life's little photography
mysteries my angst will be alleviated. Dr. Flash, on the other hand,
has a more serious problem but is reluctant to talk about it. :-)
