You could try using GroupShot:

It needs two images with (roughly) the same background, so I cropped
them both to the same area, and it got a reasonable result. It's not
quite good enough to be worth posting, because the boy's face moves (so
when it combines the two images, there's a double-image on the
right-hand side), but it certainly got me a lot further than I would
have got with Photoshop, and I'd guess if you did a bit of crude
Photoshopping to align the head in the two images, you could then use
groupshot to get a smooth border.
