For my now ancient Nikon scanner and using an adaptec 2930 chip/scsi card, I
also needed the Aspi
layer to get everything to work. I think both XP and Vista have a built in
basic SCSI driver that
supports most old adaptec chipset cards, but you still need the aspi layer for
things to function.
