Here is a slightly more detailed description:

PS: This also seems coceptually similar to an improved display technology I
posted about on the
list, a year or so back:

For technochrats interested in sensors, resolution and display issues:
There is an interesting company (Clairvoyante) using some similar ideas to
sensors (Bayer
pattern), but for display purposes. The idea is to improve the percieved
resolution of displays
by increasing the green resolution but to do this without introducing a green
color caste. They do
it by increased green pixel count (like Bayer) but using smaller green pixels
along with added
white pixels to increase brightness and better luminance performance.
There is a fairly readable article in the ieee general readership mag
"Spectrum" Aug 2006 pp41-44
by people from the company. The article also has some nice discussion of Bayer
issues and
comparisons with human visual systems.
Unfortunately not online, but most libraries carry Spectrum.
