As I understand it people make the holes on the underside, but that is of
course only on the underside as long as you don't turn it sideways. I first
heard about this from Martin Bailey's podcasts
(http://www.martinbaileyphotography.com/), he had one made from an original
C at some workshop in Japan (laser cut if I am correct).
Regarding the length, vignetting might be a problem, but the reason I was
looking for longer versions is simply because the original is rather long -
but looks wider too.
