Ideally, you use a different one for flatbed than for camera, a matter
of size, surface finish and stiff backing. The only ways I can think of
off hand one could use a slide for the purpose of film profiling is a
slide copier or a contact print, but then you would be making a profile
for the light used for that exposure.

Hard copy in near midday sun is the best overall for outdoor use. That
way shots in other light reflect the quality of that light. Mostly, we
don't want magic hour light to look like midday, for example. Shoot the
IT8 in any light you like and use it to neutralize that light.
