No specific recommendations about a DIY job but the original cap is next
to worthless and not worth pursuing unless you're a collector. DIY is
highly recommended. Wish I had mine back. I sold it thinking I was
going to by a 20D and didn't want a 38mm shift at 24mm prices. But I
ended up buying a 5D where the 24 shift would be quite comfortable.
