AFAIK, statins usage and omega 3 usage do not serve for the same purpose.

Essential fatty acids like omega 3 do not directly modify cholesterol
metabolism, statins certainly do.
OTOH, omega 3 has several healthy effects (it is a <essential> molecule)
but has a few risks, which seems to have been pointed out by the FDA:
